2011 Swim Season off to Grim Start in Alameda

I think we knew this was coming. First the heater at Emma Hood was broken "backwards" and now it's broken "forwards" as in BROKEN and hence, Emma is closed.

According to a note from AUSD (provided below for download), Emma will be closed for 3 weeks because they need to get the parts and then make the repair. The cost estimate is $15,000 paid for by the City of Alameda.

Meanwhile, Encinal Swim Center is still awaiting final approvals from the County Health Department before they can make the repairs. The PDF below includes some of the back and forth between AUSD and the county. They are trying!

Over the years we have gotten used to the heater breaking at Emma Hood and enduring one or two closures during the winter. Walnut Creek recently lost their heater and reportedly had to close for 3 months because of lack of parts. It would be great if we could stock some parts to reduce the closures.
