Safe or Not?

Alameda County sent out a letter on July 1, 2010 warning about non-compliance (cityre_ab1020.pdf posted below.) On October 7, they followed up w/ letter asking for proof that the anti-entrapment drain work has been done (city_encinal_pool.pdf).

Why will Alameda County not accept the work done by Patrell Engineering Group (of El Dorado Hills) who certified the repairs? Patrell's documents are also provided below (patrell_ahs.pdf and patrell_ehs.pdf).

So why are the swim centers not considered compliant? Why has Patrell Engineering Group, Inc. not been allowed to respond to the 10/7/2010 inspector letter? Patrell is the project engineer of record and is familiar with both facilities.

Why did AUSD hire a new consultant on 10/15/2010 from Southern California? The technical issue appears to be one of ratings for intake grates. Why are we wasting time starting over with a new team of consultants?

As presented, we have not seen ACHA documents on Emma Hood... only certification from Patrell. Is Emma Hood compliant per Patrell certification?

In examining all of these letters and documents, we do not see where closure was demanded. And we do not see where a health department inspection occurred in the days prior to the closures. Why did the school district jump so quickly to close the pools when it looks like they didn't have proper information (or communication for that matter) in even understanding the real issues here?

Perhaps we will find our at the AUSD board meeting tomorrow night. Pool Closures are on the agenda, so please come out and show your support.
