Cal Alumni to play Water Polo in McCovey Cove
This Saturday September 17, Cal Bears alumni are going to play water polo in the waters outside of AT&T park before Cal's football (not baseball) game inside the park. Polo should begin about 2:00.

Former Piedmont Swim Club President is running for Piedmont City Council
Early this year we learned that the City of Piedmont took over management of the Piedmont Swim Club (and it's pool of course) under the insistance of securing "hazardous materials insurance."
Tim Rood, the former swim club president and an urban planner, has announced his is running for City Council. We don't know Tim but we certainly like his platform as described in the Piedmont Patch ("robust planning process" and facilitating "robust public dialogue.") Read more »

Swimming Stars Compete This Weekend at Santa Clara Grand Prix
Swimming stars such as Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Missy Franklin, Chloe Sutton, Brendan Hansen, and many more Olympians will be competing this Thursday through Sunday at the George F. Haines International Swim Center in Santa Clara. One local swimmer -- Ben Krauss of Alameda High School / Alameda Islanders -- also qualified to compete at the Grand Prix.
This is a great opportunity to see Olympic caliber athletes compete in person. The event will also be webcast live on USASwimming.org (the link follows below.
Oakland's Live Oak Memorial Pool to be shuttered July 1.
The Live Oak Memorial Pool in Oakland -- utilized by the CUDA swim team -- is being closed on July 1, 2011.
The Oakland Parks and Recreation Supervisor announced this to CUDA representatives earlier today and the closure intends to be permanent.
This same story is unfolding all across the country. Pools are in needs of repair and nobody has capital, and they make a good target for closure because of the high operating costs dinging cash-strapped cities. Read more »
Cal Bears When NCAA Men's Swimming Championship for First Time in 31 Years
The No. 1-ranked California men's swimming team, powered by national titles by senior Nathan Adrian and a victory in the 400 free relay during the final day of the meet, earned its top ranking by winning the 2011 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday (March 26) at the Dorothy L. Shepard Pool in Minneapolis. The Golden Bears, led by fourth-year coach David Durden, won their first NCAA team title in men's swimming since capturing back to back titles under Nort Thornton in 1979-80. Read more »
